Dr. Johnson is a Licensed Psychologist with over 25 years experience, joining Responsive
Centers in March, 2005. She has a special interest in sleep-related disorders. Dr.
Johnson works with adults regarding relationship issues, divorce, depression, anxiety,
post-partum reactions, sexual-orientation issues, trauma, or stress. Her expertise
includes parenting issues, ADHD, and home or school-related behavior problems in
elementary school children to adolescents. She has had formal training in behavioral,
cognitive behavioral, and psychodynamic therapeutic approaches.
Dr. Johnson is a native of Kansas who completed her undergraduate work at the University
of Kansas. She obtained her M.A. and Ph.D. in clinical psychology through DePaul
University in Chicago. She moved from Chicago to North Carolina in 1982 to do an
internship at Duke University Medical Center, with a specialization in pediatric
psychology. She subsequently worked in several inpatient and outpatient child and
adolescent treatment centers and served as a program director on an adolescent psychiatric
unit for four years. Since 1987, Dr. Johnson has also maintained a part-time private
practice in which she treated children, adolescents, and adults. She held an assistant
professor appointment through the University of North Carolina for her role in the
training of psychology interns, social work students, and child psychiatry fellows,
until her move back to Kansas in 1995. Since that time she has worked in private
practice in Overland Park.
Dr. Johnson is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Kansas Psychological
Association, and the Greater Kansas City Psychological Association. She is married
and has two children.
