Jeanne Holverstott, MS is the autism spectrum specialist with Responsive Centers
for Psychology and Learning, where she has practiced for four years. She graduated
from the University of Kansas with a Master’s Degree in the autism and Asperger
Syndrome program in 2005. She has worked with children on the spectrum for ten years
in a variety of settings and capacities, including as a paraeducator, a home therapist,
a teacher, a home provider, and a community-based specialist. She is currently working
on certification for Relationship Development InterventionTM. Jeanne teaches classes
on the autism spectrum at Johnson County Community College and leads a monthly support
group for parents with children with autism spectrum disorders.
Jeanne believes that autism is a diagnosis systemically affecting both the diagnosed
individual and the larger family structure. As such, she offers an array of services
for children and adults with autism spectrum disorders. She attends and advocates
for her clients in Individualized Education Plan meetings. She works closely with
school staff to develop intervention plans for her clients. Clinically, she helps
parents and children on the spectrum to address behaviors, anxiety/depression, and
social skills. Jeanne runs approximately 15 social skills groups weekly for individuals
ranging in age from 4 to 25. With her older clients, she helps to improve their
quality of life in whatever way they see fit. Jeanne also provides diagnostic services
for children with suspected ASD.
Jeanne has written several articles about increasing self-determination in individuals
with ASD. Jeanne co-authored Autism Spectrum Disorders: A Handbook for Parents and
Professionals with Brenda Smith Myles. She also writes the "Ask an Expert" blog
for the www.spectrumconnection.org website.
